So looks like Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries marriage is over after a short 72 days. The marriage, that has been ridiculed since the engagement, ended when Kim filed for divorce last week. I think this image speaks volumes about the rapid spread of memes. This image was created very quickly after news of Kim and Kris's divorce was released to the public. In fact, the media was completely saturated with news stories, videos, blog posts, and editorials on the event. However, this particular image will soon lose its cultural relevance and will cease to be as funny. This is because audiences will have moved on to newer and more relevant things.

Because many people know information about the couple and were keeping tabs on them, memes were able to form much faster. I think the photograph is funny but at the same time very sad. I cannot believe that after so much hype and even “renewing” their vows on the Ellen Degeneres Show, the couple could not even survive a year together. I believe this photo caters to a target audience that knows or keeps up with celebrities. If someone that didn’t know about Kim and Kris saw this, they wouldn’t understand the humor. Honestly, I am not surprised that people have created new memes over this in that such a big deal was made for the wedding.
ReplyDeleteI think this meme was created really fast. It obviously happened because everyone kept tabs on them since Kardashian loves to be in the spotlight. I don't find this surprising at all, but rathher funny.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time i've ever seen this image and i literally laughed out loud. I watch all of the Kardashians shows, and I saw the relationship that Kris and Kim had on the show and their wedding- they seemed to be in love. It's crazy how much publicity this wedding and divorce has caused. I haven't really read into it, but all of stuff about him suing her and kim saying he's not the person she thought he was is crazy! So many memes have been created about them, but this one I find so amusing. I've noticed several images that look like this one on facebook though too. I wonder if they're all just recreations of each other? Or if the site mentioned at the bottom of the meme is a meme site and all of its memes just kinda look the same?
